How to board up the windows on your own

Are you looking for cheap and effective ways to board up your house? If your answer to this question is yes, then you should further read this article to find out how to board up the windows of your house on your own.

For this job you will need an electric drill, screws, and plywood panels. There are only three steps that you should follow, but pay attention to all the processes in order to obtain the best result.

  1. During this step, you should measure all the windows of the house using a measuring tape. After you noted down all the measurements, cut the plywood panels according to them. Keep in mind that the panels should be larger than the windows, and fixed on the wall, not on the window frame. If you only attach them to the window frame, these can still be blown in.
  2. Mark all the panels with a number, and the room those will be fixed in. Then drill holes one inch apart, using the drill, both through the panels and through the wall. These should be drilled every 12 to 16 inches.
  3. Now all you have to do is drive the screws through the panels and the wall in order to fix them into place. If you live in an area where hurricanes are a constant threat, you should put hangers in the holes you have drilled to fix the panels, and store the previously used panels in the basement so when a hurricane comes you could do the job in no-time.

Every material you need for this job can be found in local hardware shops everywhere, including areas such as Chicago, Niles, Morton Grove, Skokie, and Lincolnwood. Also, if you do not have the money necessary to buy an electric drill, you can always rent one.
